mEgo is great. I tried it and it is sooooooo portable. Only one profile to fill out and I can take it with me wherever I go. Great product.

A product that delivers a practical solution out of an abstract problem! While open social makes distribution easier for app developers, it doesn't give you portable profiles. And, even getting the profile data out of Facebook or MySpace is not actually practical - what does that profile contain, what does it look like and how does the person own it?

mEgo can take profile data from Facebook (about me, photos, friends) and combine it with my other accounts and tastes and give me a product - something that I can actually touch and feel and control. What a breath of fresh air.

adam - i think you need to look more closely at what yomego.com is - quite a different business than mego.com.

i hadn't seen this one yet - it's interesting...my prediction is that out of all these pitches this one stands the best chance. Despite the fact that it's not targeted at viewers of techcrunch blog. It's a product that's going to take off with the teenage girls first and then spread up. who ever thought that we'd all be using facebook and myspace.

Kevin - i think you may have a point. This app seems much more consumer friendly than the 9 others i just watched. I just spent far too long looking at the featured megos on their homepage. I've not actually made one myself but i think i will and stick it on my blog.

It's refreshing to see a woman pitch - and she's not bad. The product seems to have some promise. It will probably be more interesting to my kids than me unless they can make a version that is more focused on utility.

the guy who started these comments off doesn't know what open social is - that is all about making it easier for application developers to create apps using one set of protocalls. It's not about profile portability. For that, use the term "data portability."

these comment sections are too short: Continued: This app seems to be a pre-curser to true data portability, although ironically this cute little app may stand a chance to bridge the gap between where we are today and tomorrow's real data porability if it can capture enough users who want to affiliate their 'owned' profile with the brand mEgo. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

I couldn't 'get what the product was' by the description in the pitch or the write up. Then i went to the site. It's cool. Will probably do great. Looked at alexa and compete and it's growing rather quickly.

Clearly, this is an example of a company gaming the system. Serious VC's, investors and observers do not sound like infomercial audience members when posting. TC needs to fix this - and mEgo needs to realize they lost a lot of credibility by pulling off this stunt.

Guys - we did send out this link to friends of mEgo.com and they put a zillion comments on here. I'm sorry it sounds so staged - the underlying sentiment is that these are fans of ours and want everyone to love our app. I am sure that time will show the general populations consensus, and hopefully it will be positive! We are an honest, earnest, hard working bunch. And, we are very thankful for the support we have had. Thanks for understanding.

Is creating a new profile really that much of a burden? It's annoying, but I very very very rarely create a new account somewhere requiring a profile to be set up.
