I want to try!

this is a great idea, obvious direction for dental offices to go. just a matter of time before this catches fire.

Sounds perfect for me-- I hate the dentist and always have my ipod in hand there... it would be even better with a movie or tv show. I'd totally go to a dentist that had one of these things!
Shuli 8/6/08 8:54AM #
I love it...though I would think you'd want ads for Coke, so that people's teeth would rot and they'd end up back in the dentist chair.
Oza 8/6/08 11:25AM #
Sounds kool... but the domain name sucks!!
Andrew 8/6/08 11:43AM #
This could be really big!
Jorge 8/6/08 4:19PM #
What a brilliant idea!!!!
Joel 8/6/08 4:22PM #
This is cool. Great idea, and the advertisements make it a no-brainer for dentists to purchase.
Donnie 8/6/08 7:41PM #
Why just limit to dentist? Anywhere you have to wait these would be nice.
Daniel 8/6/08 7:43PM #
I understand that this is being pitched to the dental market, but why not expand this into other areas of medicine (e.g. any other situation where local anesthesia may be involved)?
Carmit levite 8/6/08 10:36PM #
I love that idea. it beats the Kenny G I always get to suffer while being in treatment. i think it's great and would go for it 100%.
MBK 8/7/08 7:26AM #
This is a great idea. The problem may be to get the dental patients out of the chair after the treatment ends. Excellent!
nk 8/7/08 9:40AM #
great! it already exists to a certain extent in many places but you could up it a notch with your ideas

I agree with Shuli's comment, I was thinking coke commercials during a filing is exactly what the dentist wants. So really either way, the dentists win. What a great idea, I love that I will be distracted by all my TV choices and not the fear of waiting for the syringe to suddenly appear in my peripheral vision.
Jennie 8/7/08 8:49PM #
I love the idea of distraction while I'm in the chair!

I like the concept but not their implementation. If their movies have as many ads as TV then I'm not interested. My DVR lets me bypass the ads; why would I want to lie in a dentists chair and watch ads; that is conceivably even worse than being in a dentist chair in the first place. Also, 9 out of 10 of my visits to the dentist are teeth cleanings which last 30-45 minutes - so they would need programming other than movies. I don't want to watch half a movie.

Hi Robert, All good points; let me address them. 2/3 of dental visits are under 1 hour, so 2/3 of our content are 30 or 45 minute shows, not movies. Also, we do not interrupt the movies themselves like TV does; all educational segments play as a 3 minute run before it starts. We do show far fewer "commercials" than regular TV does, but in general people accept the fact that free programming is actually paid for by commercial messaging, even in their own homes. Our Nielsen research has shown that people overwhelmingly like our programming, and actually find the educational segments pretty informative. Thanks for your comments!

Kinda like A Clockwork Orange meets the Marathon Man?
James 8/8/08 12:52PM #
My dentist already has a TV pointed at me that I can watch, with sound and everything. Why would they want to upgrade?
Gerald Buckley 8/8/08 1:3PM #
MP4's you say? Sell these as iPhone add ons. You'll make a lot more money.
DavidMc 8/9/08 11:18PM #
Several dentists here in London already offer this. Works very well
Howie 8/10/08 2:48PM #
Sound's amazing. Where were you when I spent all that time in the dentist's chair last year?
Marvin 8/10/08 4:14PM #
ask dentists. They are your customers.
mike 8/12/08 11:10AM #
a better experience for patients and a revenue generator for the dentist. very smart.
iamthemystic 8/15/08 1:41AM #
fantastic, i guess those visits to the dentist will be more fun!
Michael 8/19/08 1:25AM #
Other then sanitation issues, most dentists already have some type of video system already set up for their patients in the form of tv-on-ceiling
Carl 8/26/08 11:5PM #
This already exists in Europe. Look at http://www.relaxview.eu Dentists in Europe use DVD's to distract their patients.
Carl 8/27/08 4:38AM #
Look ar their recent PR of promoting video glasses at the dentist office in Europe http://www.relaxview.eu/dental_pain_distraction_Preview.htm
Alex 8/31/08 10:3AM #
Ive seen this in dental offices before
Rob Johnson 10/23/08 3:20PM #
This concept is already available. I can walk into the local BestBuy and purchase lightweight video eyewear that hooks up to my iPod or other media. Marking to a niche that may not have considered the concept is great. However, consider marketing to a niche where the average wait is long enough to enjoy the product or service.
